Summary

This apprenticeship meets the need for Network Engineers in the local area. Network Engineers need to be skilled in remote access post-pandemic, as many staff need support while working from home. Network Engineers provide remote and/ or on-site support to internal and/ or external organisations by solving problems and troubleshooting routine and non-routine network and IT infrastructure problems. Network Engineers will deal with hardware and software and are key in solving problems quickly when networks fail. This apprenticeship involves studying a variety of modules in college that help to build the necessary knowledge and skills. Teaching for the course takes place in the college’s state of the art DigiTech Factory, which provides apprentices with a hybrid learning environment where IT equipment is provided (which apprentices will use at work), so that they can earn and develop skills ready for the workplace.

Course content includes:

  • Installing, configuring and testing components/ devices
  • Analysing data
  • Optimising system performance, including upgrades
  • Complying with all legislation, policies and procedures
  • Interpreting requirements and specifications
  • The course typically lasts 2 years

You will complete the Level 4 Network Engineer apprenticeship standard.

Fees

Apprenticeship course fees are subject to the age of the apprentice, and the size of the company.

For employers with less than 50 employees who do not pay the apprenticeship levy and who take on an apprentice who is aged between 16-21 at the start of their apprenticeship, there will be no direct cost and the full training costs will be covered by Government funding. If the apprentice is aged 22+ the government partially subsides the training costs and the employer will need to pay 5% of the costs. In the case of this course, the fee would be £850.

For an employer with more than 50 employees a 5% charge will be implemented regardless of the age of the apprentice which in this case would be £850.

A levy paying company will pay the full cost of the apprenticeship from their levy account which in this case would be £17,000.

Please note that course fees are to be paid by the employer and apprentices must not be asked to make a financial contribution toward their training.
