Summary
Students work towards the University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 2 Games Design Diploma during one year of study.
This course offers an exciting and ideal starting point if you want to pursue a career in Games Design, Digital Arts, Animation, VFX, Art & Design, or 3D Modelling. It will give you all the skills you need to progress onto the Level 3 course in Games Design Development, the Level 3 course in Digital Art and Animation and beyond. The course will focus on both practical and theory aspects of Games Design. The course offers the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential to be successful in the creative digital industries. The course is made up of 8 units, all of which must be studied and passed.
These are assessed across four coursework projects:
Project 1 Digital Skills,
Project 2 Board Game Design,
Project 3 Game Development and
Project 4 Final Major Project.
In addition to your main programme, you will also study Maths and English Language. Depending on your grades at entry you will either study Functional Skills or GCSE. Please check our English and Maths page for further information.

Entry Requirements
Achieve 4 GCSE's at grade 3 or above, including English Language and maths.
Assessment
The University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 2 Games Design is assessed through a series of projects that are designed to broaden student’s skills, experience and expertise. The projects are multi-disciplinary and require students to work collaboratively and pro-actively with fellow students as well as external clients and stakeholders. A final end-point assessment (commonly referred to as the Final Major Project) decides the student’s overall grade for the year which is graded at: PASS/MERIT or DISTINCTION
Progression
Successful completion of the Level 2 Diploma to at least a Merit and GCSE English Language grade 9-4 will provide direct entry onto the Level 3 Diploma in Digital Art, Animation and Game Design. Students can also apply for alternative Level 3 courses within the department that may better suit their career aims such as Art & Design, Creative Media, Photography, Music, Graphics and Illustration, Spacial Design and Production Arts.
Career Progression
City College Norwich is a member of the University of the Arts London Progression Partnership to promote the recruitment of talented, creative students from high quality further education institutions to UAL higher education degree level courses. The course team also work with local and national higher education providers such as NUA, Suffolk One, London College of Communication and Central St Martins to ensure that our students are ready and prepared for their next step. City College Norwich also has an outstanding Apprenticeship team who can provide advice and guidance for students wishing to follow an Apprenticeship route into the industry.
For those students who choose not to pursue careers within the creative industries the course provides fantastic opportunities to develop collaborative working skills, problem-solving, creative and the higher order evaluative skills demanded by universities and employers.
Fees
If you are a UK or home fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course, tuition fees are free. If you are aged 19 and over fees may be payable.
