Summary
As part of the entry requirements for this course you will be required to complete an interview task and attend an interview.
On this two year course you will work towards the T-Level in Media, Broadcast and Production (Events and Venues Technician). Through collaborative learning and immersive study, you can take your production skills to the next level. The course has a Core Component and Occupational Specialism.
The Core Component covers creative industry skills such as:
- The creative economy
- The individual in the creative industries
- Cultural context and vocabulary
- Audience
- Legislation/Regulation
- Professionalism and ethics
The Occupational Specialism (Events and Venues Technician) covers the following skills:
- Stage Management for Live Events
- Lighting Rigging Techniques
- Lighting Programming
- Sound Installation
- Live Sound Operation
- Deputy Stage Management
- Assistant Stage Management
- Props Making
- Scenic Construction and Design
- Production and Events Management
- Video Programming and Projection Mapping
In addition you will undertake a minimum of 315 hours of industry placement within an events-based industry relevant employer.
City College Norwich has excellent facilities, including the 160-seat Platform theatre, rehearsal and dance studios, technical theatre workshop, TV Studio, audio recording studio, costume and prop stores.
Our technical facilities emulate and surpass local professional venues. You will learn on a vast range of technical equipment from the biggest and best names in the industry including:
- Thomas PARcans to Martin Professional LED moving head lighting fixtures
- Industry standard ETC lighting control systems
- Large Martin Audio and KV2 sound systems
- Yamaha Digital and Soundcraft Analogue sound control platforms
- Resolume Video design and Control

T Levels are equivalent to three A Levels and are allocated UCAS tariff points.

T Levels have been designed with leading employers and businesses. They will provide you with the skills to progress to an apprenticeship, university or skilled employment.
Academic and practical
80% will be academic and technical study at college. 20% will be practical experience gained with an employer as part of an industry placement.
Entry Requirements
Achieve 4 GCSE's at grade 4 or above, including English Language and maths. GCSE Drama at grade 4 or above (if taken).
Learning Outcomes
The T Level Technical Qualification in Media, Broadcast and Production is the main classroom-based element of the T Level. Students will learn using a curriculum that has been shaped by industry experts. During the two-year programme, students will acquire the core knowledge that underpins each industry. They will develop occupationally specific skills that will allow them to enter skilled employment within a specific occupation.
Objective
The T-Level Production Arts is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills, and understanding necessary to access and progress to drama school, degree-level study or employment in the performing arts. At the end of the Technical Qualification, students are expected to demonstrate threshold competence, meaning that they have gained the core knowledge and skills related to Media, Broadcast and Production and are well placed to develop full occupational competence with additional development and support once in employment in the Media, Broadcast and Production sector
Assessment
All assessments are externally set and marked by the awarding body Pearson.
The Core Component is assessed through written examination; the Employer Set Project (ESP) both are graded A*-E.
The Occupational Specialism (OS) components are graded Pass, Merit, Distinction or Unclassified.
The overall grading is on a scale of Pass, Merit, Distinction, Distinction* or Unclassified. The overall grade is awarded by the Institute for Apprenticeships & Technical Education (IfATE).
Progression
Students could progress to relevant Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes or degree programmes. Students must check the entry requirements for each degree programme with the relevant higher education provider as some Universities currently do not accept T-Levels.
Career Progression
Students undertaking this Technical Qualification will be 16–19 years old and in full-time education.
The typical student has:
- a clear idea about the industry sector in which they wish to pursue a career
- an idea of the type of job role they would like to explore as a career.
This Technical Qualification aligns to the Level 3 Apprenticeships Creative Venue Technician and Live Event Technician (Events and Venues Technician).
The qualification supports progression to entry-level job opportunities in Media, Broadcast and Production.
Alternatively, students could progress to Level 3 apprenticeships such as those mentioned above to develop and gain certification of full occupational competence, or they could progress to higher-level Apprenticeships. such as the Level 4 Post production Technical Operator, Assistant Technical Director (visual effects), Media Production Co-Ordinator and Assistant Recording Technician depending on their skills or experience.
Fees

It is essential production students see as much theatre as they can. Therefore we arrange regular trips to the theatres across the county to see a variety of work produced. Termly outings include a range of theatre shows, professional workshops and workplace related activities.
