A Levels at City College Norwich
City College Norwich is the largest provider of A Levels in Norfolk. Every year hundreds of students choose to study for their A Levels at our sixth form centre.
City College Norwich Sixth Form offers much more than a traditional sixth form. You will enjoy unrivalled student experiences, outstanding opportunities and support in a mature learning environment that is very different to being in a school setting.
We offer over 20 A Level courses in wide range of subjects. You will be taught by experienced A Level subject specialist teachers, have access to fantastic facilities and the opportunity to follow your passion and interests outside of the classroom. This includes national and international trips and the opportunity to take part in enrichment activities and college-wide events.
Please note A Levels at City College Norwich cannot be combined with a vocational course, including BTECs and UAL diplomas.
A challenging and supportive sixth form
At our college you will be treated like an adult and be given the freedom to express yourself. You will be supported by our tutors who are here to help you enjoy and make the most of your time with us. Tutors will also help you with your next step, guiding you through UCAS university, apprenticeship or employment applications.
We expect you to work hard, attend fully and act on the advice of your teachers and tutors. You will need to take responsibility for completing work to your best ability and challenging yourself.
We value our students and their voices are heard. You are listened to, involved in decision making and given responsibility to lead the way in helping shape your sixth form. You can become a student ambassador or be on the student council, as well as take part in the Students’ Union or the governing board.
One thing you can be certain of is that you are treated as an individual and your personal aspirations will be fully supported through whichever path you choose. You will receive expert guidance in creating a study programme which best suits your needs and gives you what you need to fulfil your ambitions.
An inclusive sixth form
We pride ourselves on being an inclusive sixth form. We understand that not all students have the same aspirations and that there are lots of routes to getting you to where you want to be. While over two thirds of our students progress to university, an increasing number of students are going into employment or doing an apprenticeship once they have completed their A Levels.
Our sixth form students progress to outstanding destinations
City College Norwich A Levels provide excellent progression routes to university, employment and apprenticeships.
Our sixth form leavers go on to study a wide range of subjects at universities across the UK. This includes those ranked in the top 20 overall or in a specialist subject in the university league tables, including Ravensbourne, York and Nottingham. Almost a third of our students go straight into employment, progress to an apprenticeship or take a gap year.
Entry requirements
A Levels are challenging academic qualifications; therefore students do need to have a strong GCSE foundation to be able to cope with the demands of this next level of study. As a minimum students should have achieved at least six subjects at grade 4, with at least four of these being graded at a 5 and above.
Each A Level subject has specific entry requirements, so please check these carefully, but you will notice the majority of subjects do require a grade 5 in GCSE English Language (English Literature is not accepted as an alternative to this). We will always look at the range of grades achieved and speak with students regarding the most appropriate combinations of subjects, based on their academic ability and on their aspirations.
