Summary

This qualification is designed to stimulate interest and encourage the learners’ understanding of the skills and knowledge needed to care for young children. The qualification will cover a diverse range of units, giving core understanding of working with and caring for children aged from birth to 5 years and 11 months. The units cover both personal development and the development and growth of babies and young children. It will also explore the value of a healthy lifestyle and diet, communication and learning, aspects of play and importance of building children's' confidence.
You will also be expected to complete work experience in a relevant early years placement.

Entry Requirements

Achieve 3 GCSEs at grade 2 or above, including English Language and maths.
Attend a taster day
Complete associated diagnostic tasks
Provide two positive references
Successful completion of a Disclosure Baring Service (DBS) check.

Objective

This programme will give students the basic knowledge and understanding of the key areas caring for children. It can also help you to develop transferable skills which can be used later in all forms of employment.

Assessment

The course will be internally assessed by a range of methods. This could include tasks such as planners, posters, leaflets, presentations, practical or written assignments.

Progression

Successful completion of the programme could enable progression on to the Level 2 Diploma - Early Years Practitioner.

Career Progression

This qualification supports learners in preparing for the next steps either in level 2 training in the early years sector, or moving towards level 2 apprenticeships and employment.

Fees

If you are a UK or home fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course, tuition fees are free. If you are aged 19 and over fees may be payable.
