Summary

Our T Level Foundation Year in Education and Childcare programme recognise the diverse needs of students and are designed to provide a well-rounded route onto a chosen T Level. Students that would benefit from taking the foundation year include those that may need some extra study and prep time before taking on a T Level or that need additional support with attainment, personal development or English and maths.

The aim of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age with applied knowledge in the early years, 0-5 years. The qualification content meets the Department for Education’s (DfE) Level 2 full and relevant criteria for a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner in the workforce.

Core skills, knowledge and behaviours will cover 5 key areas including; attitudes and behaviours, English, maths and digital skills, study skills, Knowledge and skills for the workplace and industry relevant technical knowledge.

Entry Requirements

Achieve 4 GCSE's at grade 4 or above, including English Language or maths.
Attend a taster day
Complete associated diagnostic tasks
Provide two positive references
Successful completion of a Disclosure Baring Service (DBS) check.

It is also desirable that you have undertaken some work experience in an education setting.

Learning Outcomes

All students are to develop the knowledge and skills to be able to demonstrate the following three National Technical Outcomes, by the end of the programme:
Outcome 1 (O1). Plan learning activities to support children’s development
Outcome 2 (O2). Prepare environments for learning activities to support children’s development
Outcome 3 (O3). Contribute to the assessment of children’s development

Objective

Key principles for the T Level Foundation Year Programme
1) Provide relevant preparation for what students will experience on T Levels
2) Develop core knowledge, skills and behaviours that prepare students for progressing to level 3 study in their chosen T Level route
3) Help students to make the right decision about what to do after the programme

Assessment

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. Knowledge based outcomes can be assessed using a range of assessment tasks, such as assignments, presentations and work books.
Skills based outcomes must be achieved with reference to a real work environment and must include direct observation within the workplace, whilst completing a minimum of 250 hours of placement.

Progression

Progression could be on to the T level education and Early Years with occupational specialisms available in Assisting Teaching and Early Years Educator.

Career Progression

The level 2 qualification embedded in this programme of study will enable learners to count in the level 2 ratios within early years settings.

Fees

If you are a UK or home fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course, tuition fees are free. If you are aged 19 and over fees may be payable.
