Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Level 3

Entry Requirements

• GCSE Grade 4/C in Maths and English (Language or Literature) or Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English
• If in exceptional circumstances a learner has not achieved English or Maths at Level 2 (4/C or above at GCSE or Functional Skills Level 2), they will have to attend Functional Skills sessions which will be held on an additional day to their regular college attendance. Some employers will also accept other relevant qualifications and experience, including a relevant Level 2 qualification as part of a candidate's application for the apprenticeship
• Employers must also carry out an up-to-date Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) check on their apprentice(s)

Candidates should also:

• Be willing to reflect on their own practice, learn, and apply that learning in the workplace
• Be able to relate well to children, young people and adults
• Show enthusiasm to work with children and young people, and be working for a minimum of 30 hours per week, including all study days at college
• Be numerate and literate
• Have a suitable level of physical fitness to perform some aspects of the job roles

In order to enrol onto an apprenticeship, you need to be employed in a relevant job role and undertake a range of tasks which would enable you to complete the apprenticeship qualification.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, learners will be awarded with a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Standard.

Assessment

Training and assessments are delivered in the workplace and in college. Apprentices will be required to attend college-based sessions as part of their training, whilst also completing off-the-job training in the workplace. You will also complete assessments and observations in the workplace.

At the end of the apprenticeship, you will complete an End Point Assessment which consists of:

• A 2- hour practical observation in the workplace
• A 20- minute Question & Answer session following the observation
• A 90- minute professional discussion supported by the portfolio of evidence

Apprentices must have their English and Maths grades in place before taking their EPA, as these are essential criteria for taking the assessments.

Progression

As well as ensuring full competency as a Teaching Assistant, this standard provides a foundation for potential progression into various career paths in education. including Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), Assistant Teacher or Teacher.

Career Progression

Career or academic progression may include continuation, development or promotion at work or within the business sector or progression onto an Advanced Apprenticeship, Higher Apprenticeship or higher education. Apprentices may want to pursue the Level 6 Teaching Apprenticeship Standard (Primary or Secondary Teacher).

Fees

Apprenticeship course fees are subject to the age of the apprentice, and the size of the company.
 
For employers with less than 50 employees who do not pay the apprenticeship levy and who take on an apprentice who is aged between 16-21 at the start of their apprenticeship, there will be no direct cost and the full training costs will be covered by Government funding. If the apprentice is aged 22+ the government partially subsides the training costs and the employer will need to pay 5% of the costs. In the case of this course, the fee would be £350.
 
For an employer with more than 50 employees a 5% charge will be implemented regardless of the age of the apprentice which in this case would be £350.
 
A levy paying company will pay the full cost of the apprenticeship from their levy account which in this case would be £7,000.
 
Please note that course fees are to be paid by the employer and apprentices must not be asked to make a financial contribution toward their training.
