Summary

As a full-time student this programme of Study will be made up of several different components to ensure that the best possible opportunities are experienced when studying with us, as well as increasing and promoting progression opportunities going forward.

This qualification covers the technical needs for introduction into today's Automotive repair industry, including diagnosis of non-complex faults. It provides essential knowledge for service technicians working on cars and light vehicles. During their time at College students will gain vehicle maintenance and repair skills by studying a number of units as listed below:

  • Unit L1AM06: Spark Ignition System Components and Maintenance
  • Unit L1AM07: Spark Ignition Engine Fuel System Components and Maintenance
  • Unit L1AM08: Compression Ignition Engine Fuel System Components and Maintenance
  • Unit L1AM09: Exhaust System Components and Maintenance
  • Unit L1AM10: Steering System Components and Maintenance

Your time at college will be divided into 60% classroom delivery and 40% practical workshop activities. The course includes elements of health and safety, general housekeeping and industry standard repair techniques covering all the systems of the vehicle.

Entry Requirements

Achieve GCSE English Language at grade 2 or above. Achieve GCSE maths at grade 3 or above.

Learning Outcomes

This IMI (Institute of Motor Industry) Level 1 Diploma is aimed at young people who are planning a career as an automotive technician.

Assessment

To successfully complete this course you will need to complete a number of practical assessments, construct a written portfolio and online knowledge assessments. Practical skills will be tested by a series of tasks within the College workshop, theory knowledge will be tested by the portfolio and assessed by the awarding body external verifier.

Progression

Successful students could progress onto an IMI Level 2 Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Diploma.

Career Progression

The IMI Level 1 Diploma will help students progress into employment and opens up opportunities to find an apprenticeship programme with an employer.

Fees

If you are a UK or home fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course, tuition fees are free. If you are aged 19 and over please contact the Advice Shop In addition to this there will be costs for Uniform of steel toe capped boots, trousers and logo shirt.
