Summary
GCSE Psychology is offered as a one-year daytime course. You will spend 3 hours per week in class and you will need to spend a minimum of 4 hours each week on your own studies and homework set by your lecturer.
This is an intensive and demanding course which requires full attendance and self-directed study. You may wish need to purchase a textbook (you will be advised as to which one at the start of the course).
The course will follow the OCR Specification GCSE (9-1) in Psychology (J203).

Entry Requirements
Achieved, or working to achieve, GCSE English Language and maths at grade 3 or above.
Learning Outcomes
The course is intended for those wishing to continue to study psychology at a higher level, pursue careers in fields such as health, education, marketing, media or human resources or simply to learn more about how our minds work.
You will need to have a mature approach to study and be highly self-motivated with the willingness to work hard both independently and in small groups and take part in class discussions.
This is an intensive course of study and attendance at teaching sessions is vital for a successful outcome, as is completion of mock assessments, homework and independent study.
Due to work involved in completing a GCSE course, we do not recommend taking more that two GCSEs in any given academic year.
Assessment
Two external Awarding Body exams in May/June . These dates are released by the Awarding Bodies and no alternative dates can be used. Please make a note of these at the earliest opportunity to avoid taking holidays during this time.
All candidates will be given a Digital Skills assessment and will be offered a short course to improve this area of their knowledge if this is deemed suitable.
Progression
Students may go on to an Access to Higher Education course at City College Norwich or Easton college (such as our Access to HE Humanities & Social Sciences course or Criminal Justice and Policing). This qualification can also be used for future Higher Education study as some university courses will required require a GCSE in a social science subject at grade C/4 or above.
Career Progression
A GCSE in a social science subject is very useful in getting started in a wide variety of careers. City College Norwich offers an Access to Higher Education (Level 3) qualification, which is equivalent to three A Levels and allows entry onto a Degree programme.
