Summary

This course combines a basic introduction to Childcare where you will study Level 1 award in “Introduction to Health and Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings”, along with essential employability skills, English and maths.

Entry Requirements

No specific GCSE entry qualifications are required, but you must successfully complete and submit your Enrolment Task as directed.

Learning Outcomes

This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive skill set when working with service users within childcare. Students will gain first-hand experiences of care within a wide range of settings, including residential care homes, nurseries and special educational needs schools.

Objective

The course is designed to offer a well-rounded education in childcare to help the student gain knowledge and skills to progress in that area. The course will cover a range of topics such as the roles and provision on offer, the principles and values of health and social care, communication and safeguarding.

Assessment

This course has a mixture of course work and practical skills required to gain an understanding of childcare. Students will also acquire practical skills to enhance their performance in the workplace.

Everything for the course is assessed through coursework, there are no formal examinations. However, if the students is taking English or maths as part of their programme of study, there will be exams for those.
Students are awarded a pass or a referral grade on each unit/project. Students will need to pass all units in order to achieve the qualification. Some units/projects will have set deadlines and there will be sufficient time to complete all the work in class.

Progression

A pass on this course as well as a good reference from your Course leader will enable you to progress onto a Level 1 course at college. Most students progress to either Level 1 Health and Social Care or Level 1 Caring for Children.

Career Progression

This course will help students build skills that are in demand for entry-level jobs in health and social care. It will boost their confidence for teamwork, but many students eventually transition to level 1 courses at the college. Alternatively, we can provide advice and guidance for students wishing to follow an Apprenticeship route.

Fees

If you are a UK or home fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course, tuition fees are free. If you are aged 19 and over fees may be payable.
