Summary
Our T Level Foundation Year in Health and Science programme recognises the diverse needs of students and are designed to provide a well-rounded route onto a chosen T Level. Students that would benefit from taking the foundation year include those that may need some extra study and prep time before taking on a T Level or that need additional support with attainment, personal development or English and maths.
Core skills, knowledge and behaviours will cover 5 key areas including; attitudes and behaviours, English, maths and digital skills, study skills, Knowledge and skills for the workplace and industry relevant technical knowledge.
During this course you will study Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Working in the Health Sector. This is a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills designed to prepare you to progress onto either T Level in health or T Level in Lab Science. This qualification aims to give you the opportunity to investigate a work role in the health sector and provide the underpinning knowledge needed to work effectively.
The course also prepares you to undertake various roles in both the health and social care or science sectors. You will learn about the roles and responsibilities of health care and science practitioners and how to communicate effectively in these environments. To develop your employability skills you will undertake a work placement. This provides you with hands-on experience in real-world settings, allowing you to apply the theoretical knowledge leaned in the classroom to practical situations.

Entry Requirements
Achieve 4 GCSE's at grade 4 or above, including English Language or maths, and one science subject
Attend a taster day
Complete associated diagnostic tasks
Provide two positive references
Successful completion of a Disclosure Baring Service (DBS) check
Learning Outcomes
All students are to develop the knowledge and skills to be able to demonstrate the following three outcomes, by the end of the programme:
Outcome 1 (O1). Apply knowledge and understanding of scientific theories, concepts and principles to health and science contexts
Outcome 2A (O2A). Provide person centred care to support the health and wellbeing of individuals OR
Outcome 2B (O2B). Follow Standard Operating Procedures to perform laboratory analysis
Outcome 3 (O3). Analyse information and data to highlight health and science issues
Objective
Key principles for the T Level Foundation Year programme
1) Provide relevant preparation for what students will experience on T Levels
2) Develop core knowledge, skills and behaviours that prepare students for progressing to level 3 study in their chosen T Level route
3) Help students to make the right decision about what to do after the programme
Assessment
During the course, you are required to successfully complete 6 mandatory units:
- Unit 01 Understand the role of the healthcare worker
- Unit 02 Communication skills for working in the health sector
- Unit 03 Personal development in the health sector
- Unit 04 Health, safety and security in the health sector
- Unit 05 Understand quality standards in the health sector
- Unit 06 Equality and diversity in the health sector
Progression
With the successful completion of the course and achieving grade 4 in English / maths GCSEs, you can progress on to one of the T level: Health pathways, T level: Lab Science pathways or apprenticeships
Career Progression
Once you have completed the course you will be able to progress on to a level 3 to develop your understanding further into a number of industries, including nursing, social work and social care
Fees
If you are a UK or home fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course, tuition fees are free.
