Summary

Students work towards the University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 2 Creative Media Production and Technology Diploma during one year of study.

This course offers an exciting and ideal starting point if you want to pursue a career in the media. It will give you all the skills you need to progress onto the Level 3 course in Media Production and beyond.

During this enjoyable course you will work in groups and individually to produce several different projects and be encouraged to develop critical thinking and self-evaluation skills. You will learn how to use a video camera, editing software and audio equipment and will also learn about different media audiences and media products, how research helps create brilliant media, how to get a job in media and why planning is crucial. You will hear from industry experts and engage in a wide variety of fun enrichment activities. Your final project will be individual, self-directed and must be green lit by the course team.

Entry Requirements

Achieve 4 GCSE's at grade 3 or above to include English Language Grade 3.

Assessment

The University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 2 Creative Media Production and Technology is assessed through a series of projects that are designed to broaden student’s skills, experience and expertise. The projects are multi-disciplinary and require students to work collaboratively and pro-actively with fellow students as well as external clients and stakeholders. All projects must be passed before undertaking a final Major Project which decides the student’s overall grade for the year and which is graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Progression

Successful completion of the Level 2 Diploma at a Merit or higher level, GCSE English Language at Grade 4 (plus a satisfactory reference from the course leader, assessing aptitude, attendance, behaviour etc) will provide direct entry onto the Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media. Students can also apply for alternative Level 3 courses that may better suit their career aims such as: Art & Design, Music, Fashion, Business & Communications, Photography, Graphics & Illustration, Digital Arts, Animation and Games Design or Production Arts.

City College Norwich is a member of the University of the Arts London Progression Partnership to promote the recruitment of talented, creative students from high quality further education institutions to UAL higher education degree level courses. The course team also work with local and national higher education providers such as NUA, Suffolk One, London College of Communication and Central St Martins to ensure that our students are ready and prepared for their next step. City College Norwich also has an outstanding Apprenticeship team who can provide advice and guidance for students wishing to follow an Apprenticeship route into the industry.

For those students who choose not to pursue careers within the creative industries the course provides fantastic opportunities to develop collaborative working skills, problem-solving, creative and the higher order evaluative skills demanded by universities and employers.

Fees

If you are a UK or home fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course, tuition fees are free. If you are aged 19 and over fees may be payable.
