Summary
Interested in sewing and want to learn a new skill, come to gain an understanding and get handy with the basics of sewing by enrolling on this sewing course for beginners. With a mixture of hand and machine work, you will have a variety of projects to showcase the skills and techniques learnt on the course. This introduction to sewing will cover hand sewing and machine sewing techniques that you will showcase by making different samples. By the end of the course you will be able to take home a cushion that you have constructed and your choice of a bag or bunting to take away with you, putting your new learnt skills into practice.
Throughout the course you will learn the following: -
1: Getting to know your sewing machine
2: Hand sewing and Fabric construction
3: Joining methods
4: Cushion construction
5: Advanced sewing skills
6: Bag or Bunting construction
(The above is just a loose example of the course breakdown, on what is covered in each session each week)
You will need to bring with you to the course -
- To make a Cushion you will need 1/2mtr of fabric minimum of 110cm in width (cotton/cotton drill/denim/upholstery fabric) and 1x Cushion pad 42cm
- To Make the Bunting a Selection of cotton fat quarters or scrap fabrics
- To make the Bag you will need 1mtr outer fabric and 1mtr inner (cotton, linen cotton, light weight denim)
- Notepad and pen for jotting down ideas and measurements
