The qualification is intended to meet the educational base for registration as a technician.
This qualification aims to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in the construction sector and adapt to a constantly changing world. It also aims to widen access to higher education and enhance the career prospects of those undertaking it.
The programmes incorporate a combination of traditional classroom teaching, open learning and research-based experiential learning, laboratory experiments and demonstrations, use of surveying equipment, industry standard IT
applications and group activities.

The course requires 120 credits, comprising 8 units (15 credits each) at Level 4 as follows:

Entry Requirements
Students will need:
GCSE grades at A* to C (or equivalent) and/or 9 to 4 (or equivalent) in Maths and English AND one of the following:
a BTEC Level 3 qualification in Construction or other related Level 3 qualification
a GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject.
an Access to Higher Education Diploma from an approved further education institution
an international equivalent to the above qualifications.
Mature students with relevant industrial backgrounds may also be considered. Subject to interview.

Objective
This course is studied one day a week for approximately 30 weeks per academic year. It is anticipated that the course will take up to 18 months to complete.
Objectives include providing the core skills required for a range of careers in construction. Students will also be offered a balance of employability skills and the knowledge essential for students with entrepreneurial, employment, or academic ambitions.
Assessment
Assessment consists of assignments, presentations, project work, and exams. Many assignments are based on students' own work experiences.
Progression
This qualification can be topped up to a Level 5 Higher National Diploma and is recognised by higher education providers as meeting admission requirements to many relevant construction-related courses, for example:

Career Progression
This programme is widely recognised by employers and professional bodies and can provide pathways to both further education and membership of relevant professional bodies.

HNC per 15 credit unit UK fee: £800, International Fee: £970
HNC total £6,400, International Fee: £7,730
In addition to the course fees, there is also a Pearson registration fee, which they have not yet set for 2024/25, which will be charged separately from the tuition fees above.
As a guide, the 2023/24 BTEC Level 4 and 5 Higher National Student Registration (other HNC or HNDs) fees were £253.75, in year one, with a further £23.00 learner registration in each subsequent year of study.
