Summary

Beyond the basics. Next level digital photography.

You understand the elements of creating an exposure. You choose to use priority or manual modes on your camera, and are happy shooting RAW photos.
You know how to choose the appropriate shutter speed, aperture and ISO to capture an exposure. You know the basics of composition. You are comfortable using editing software to tweak RAW images.
This course will take your digital photography to the next level. Maybe you want to improve in a particular genre, or maybe you need more advanced image processing help. With this course you'll be shown techniques to take your photos from good to stunning, and skills for Lightroom Classic and Photoshop to improve them even further.

Week 1 - To start, you will bring in some of your favourite shots, as well as some that didn't come out quite as you had hoped, so we can address improving your techniques. We'll talk through your camera gear to iron out any issues you may need help with.

Week 2 - You will learn advanced techniques and 'hidden' features in Adobe Lightroom Classic. Processing night and low-light shots, presets and using masks. Making a panorama.

Week 3 - Editing and batch-processing with presets. Streamlining your workflow to spend less time editing and more time shooting. Photoshop vs. Lightroom Classic.

Week 4 - Adobe Photoshop. Adding text and blending photos. Making a poster or magazine cover.

Week 5 - Working with light, natural or artificial. Lighting demonstration using on/off camera flash. Portraits and still life.

Week 6 - Advanced Lightroom Classic, beyond Library and Develop. Advanced composition, thinking creatively when aiming your camera.

This course is best suited to people using DSLR and mirrorless (interchangeable lens) cameras. Users of compact/bridge cameras may join the course but you may lack the controls to make the best of your photos.
Assignments will be given to shoot between sessions to practise your skills.
