What is an Apprenticeship?

An Apprenticeship means you work and get paid while you learn an industry skill.  It’s a real job with real training, meaning you gain hands-on work experience as well as a formal qualification.  As an apprentice you learn ‘on-the-job’, which may mean that you go to college on day release or undertake all of your training at work – it varies depending on your role and your employer.

There are four levels of Apprenticeship in total and the level of Apprenticeship you do will depend on previous qualifications and experience and the type of industry you will work in.
