IMI Level 1 Diploma in Transport Maintenance - Light Vehicle (VRQ)
As a full-time student, your Programme of Study will be made up of several different components to ensure that you get the best possible opportunities and experiences when studying with us, and to increase and promote your progression opportunities going forward. This qualification covers the technical needs for introduction into today's motor vehicle repair industry, including diagnosis of non-complex faults. It provides essential knowledge for service technicians working on cars and light vehicles. During their time at College students will gain basic vehicle maintenance and repair skills and you will study a number of units listed below:
PSD - including requirements for driving test theory and introduction to practical skills needed for driving tests.

Light Vehicle Construction
English and Maths to improve your GCSE/ Functional Skills grades.
Your time at college will be divided into 60% classroom delivery and 40% practical workshop activities. The course includes elements of health and safety, general housekeeping and industry standard repair techniques covering all the systems of the vehicle.
Applicants should have 2 GCSEs at grade E or 2 or above in English and Mathematics plus successful completion of an interview.
This IMI (Institute of Motor Industry) Level 1 Diploma is aimed at young people who are planning a career as an automotive technician.
To successfully complete this course you will need to complete a number of practical assessments, construct a written portfolio and online knowledge assessments. Practical skills will be tested by a series of tasks within the College workshop, theory knowledge will be tested by the portfolio and assessed by the awarding body external verifier.
Successful students could progress onto an IMI Level 2 Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Award or Level 2 Body Repair.
The IMI Level 1 Diploma will help students progress into employment and opens up opportunities to find an apprenticeship programme with an employer.
