CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) (QCF)

Learners must achieve 61 credits to achieve the Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) (QCF). To do this they must complete the 23 mandatory units from four different themes.
As the level of this pathway (L3) determines that the apprentice should be working at a level where they may either be working on their own or supervising others, the apprentice should have prior experience of the sector and be employed in a position whereby they would be able to demonstrate the competencies required at this level.

Candidates should also:
• Ideally have achieved a minimum of Grade C GCSE in English Language and Mathematics (or equivalents in Functional Skills). Candidates will be required to complete Functional Skills Level 2.
• Show enthusiasm to work with children and young people and be working for a minimum of 30 hours per week and a maximum of 48 hours – this is inclusive of any study days at college.
• Have a suitable level of physical fitness to perform some aspects of the job roles.
• Be willing to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) check.

In order to enrol onto an Apprenticeship, you need to be employed in a relevant job role and undertake a range of tasks which would enable you to complete the Apprenticeship qualification.
Apprenticeship course fees are subject to the age of the apprentice, the payroll of the employer and the number of employees. Course fees are paid by the employer and not the apprentice. Employers who take on an apprentice aged between 16-18 years old, or with an Educational Health Care Plan, will receive an Incentive Payment to help cover their costs. To discuss Apprenticeship course fees, employers should contact the Apprenticeship Team on 0800 328 3616 or email employerpartnerships@ccn.ac.uk. For more information on recruiting an apprentice or if you would like to train your existing staff please contact our Employer Partnerships Team on 0800 328 3616 or email employerpartnerships@ccn.ac.uk
Training and assessments are delivered in the workplace alongside college attendance on a day release basis. Assessment is via a variety of methods, including case studies, assignments, practical assessments and projects. The Apprentice will be required to attend Master Classes at City College Norwich for one full day approximately every 4 weeks where the core theoretical, underpinning knowledge elements of the Level 3 Certificate for the Children and Young People's Workforce will be taught – portfolio building will also form part of this day. For those without exemption for the required Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT further attendance will be required.
Progression onto a Higher Apprenticeship or a higher level of study or employment.
Career or academic progression may include continuation, development or promotion at work or within this sector and progression into higher education. Achievement of this pathway will enable apprentices to access higher level jobs within the sector for instance nursery supervisor, nursery manager, pre-school manager/co-ordinator, etc. There is also opportunity for apprentices to go on to further study at higher levels, particularly working towards a Foundation Degree in Early Years.
