Further Education Awards
2nd November 2023 – Tags: FE Awards
City College Norwich, Easton College and Paston College have celebrated the achievements of 27 outstanding students at our annual Further Education (FE) Awards.
The select group of award winners were chosen from more than 5,500 students who studied on FE courses with the colleges last year.
The awards cover the full range of FE courses offered across our colleges - from entry level qualifications, through to GCSEs, A Levels, T Levels, BTECs, UAL awards and Access to Higher Education courses.
The awards ceremony was held in the Green Room at Easton College.
Among the award winners was Professional Chefs Advanced Technical Diploma student Bobby Devere, who was named Student of the Year for Hospitality and Catering. Bobby was commended for his outstanding achievements on both the theoretical and practical aspects of the course. He said:
The lecturers are really helpful and it was easy to make friends because we are all passionate about the same things. I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve learnt a lot.”
The winner of the James Barr Memorial Award was presented to Chisom Okorie, who completed the Access to HE: Science for Health Practitioners course earlier this year. Chisom achieved distinctions in all her units and is progressing on to do a mental health nursing degree at UEA. Chisom said:
Initially I thought it was going to be daunting, being a mature student and having a family with two little ones to look after. But the teachers were amazing, brilliant. They make you feel at ease, even though you are studying as a mature student. They are very encouraging and approachable.”
The award for Student of the Year for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) went to Sasha Ploskin. In his first year with us, Sasha successfully completed Entry Level 2, Entry Level 3 and Level 1 ESOL, which is a huge achievement in such a short space of time. He has also passed GCSE maths and is now working towards 4 more GCSEs, with a view to doing a T Level in IT. Sasha said:
I find college really good because I get a lot of support. I wouldn't be here without my teachers. I am grateful to them.”
