Students on the Theatrical, Special Effects and Media Make-up Artistry Advanced Technical Diploma played a key part in making the Loco Horror Train a fright-filled journey for hundreds of passengers this Halloween.
Fourteen students took part in this unique work experience opportunity, using their skills to create haunting, blood-spattered looks for the actors who terrorised the train’s passengers each night.
They had to work with the event organisers, and the scare actors themselves, to create the desired looks – and then ensure continuity throughout all of the journeys on the Mid-Norfolk Railway over a 10-day period.
The Level 3 students had to work to a strict timetable, to ensure that all of the actors’ make-up was ready in time for the start of each trip. Some make-up changes had to be made in transit, in poor light, adding to the challenge.
Tracey Gaines, Course Leader, Level 3 Theatrical, Special Effects, & Media Make-up, said:
“There were a lot of different challenges for the students, not to mention some long hours, but they overcame it all. They were really professional, working well together and collaboratively with the wider team. The feedback from the event organiser was excellent.”
