Media Learning Company students’ film is finalist in National Charity Film Awards
21 Mar 2018

A short film for local testicular cancer charity It’s On The Ball, produced by three students on the Media Learning Company course at City College Norwich, has reached the final stages in this year’s National Charity Film Awards.
The Film was written and produced by Louise Allin, Francesca Davey and Emma Bryan, whose group Paper Plane Productions produced a series of commissions to develop their skills throughout the 1-year Level 3 / 4 Foundation course. They were mentored by Norwich-based video production company Eye Film and Television.
The film titled ‘Chris T’s Story’ aims to raise awareness of Testicular Cancer. It features a local couple who explain how they discovered that Chris was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer and the effect it has had on their lives.
The film is regularly used by the charity when giving talks in schools and colleges about how to detect the signs and symptoms of Testicular Cancer. It’s on The Ball Chairman, Vince Wolverson, said
“We are really pleased with the film, it features a real couple who the audience can relate to. The positive end to the story really has an affect on the people who see it, and we hope the film will encourage all men to check themselves for the signs and symptoms or Testicular Cancer. We are also delighted the film has got so far in the competition, which featured some strong opposition from a lot of other charities across the country.”
The films are judged in two phases:
- Firstly by the public who will determine a short list of entries for each category (and have an opportunity to donate to the cause as they vote).
- Secondly by a panel of expert judges who will vote independently to choose winners from the short list.

The winners will be announced in late April at a red carpet award ceremony in London.
