WorldSkills UK body art competition success for Media Make-Up students

Two Theatrical and Media Make-Up students from City College Norwich have proven their skills on a national stage after representing the college in the final of the WorldSkills UK Body Art competition.

Viktoria Vargova, 19, from Norwich, won the silver medal in the prestigious competition, with her Sleeping Beauty-inspired piece, while Mollie Nash, 19, from Reepham, also produced a superb piece with her Lion King-themed design.

Media Make-Up students reach WorldSkillsUK national final

Two Level 3 Media Make-Up students from City College Norwich, Viktoria Vargova and Mollie Nash, have been selected to represent the college in the WorldSkills UK final of the Media Make-Up Body competition. 

Their qualification for the national final, which takes place in Birmingham in November, was confirmed this week after Viktoria and Mollie achieved 1st and 2nd place respectively in the Midlands regional heat at Walsall College on 2nd July.

Hairdressing apprentices put on spectacular showcase of skills

Eleven apprentice hairstylists put on an impressive show of their styling skills this week with a showcase event for their employers, assessors from City College Norwich, family, friends and other guests.

The Del Cabello show – which means “of hair” in Spanish – was held in City College Norwich’s Platform Theatre.

The showcase had three parts, featuring a wide range of themes from Fairy Tale to Punk, Tribal to Pageant Queen and Bollywood to Hollywood, and also included live demonstrations.

Beauty students lend a hand at Cavell Court fundraising day for nurses

Beauty therapy students from City College Norwich helped to raise funds for the Cavell Nurses’ Trust when Cavell Court care home in Cringleford hosted a fundraising event to coincide with International Nurses Day.

Ahead of the first residents being welcomed to Cavell Court later this summer, local people dropped in to the marketing suite for a coffee morning and pamper day.  The City College Norwich beauty students provided treatments in exchange for a donation to the Trust; and local nurses were treated to relaxing complimentary massages and manicures.

Students create witch, wizard and mythical creature characters at hair and make up showcase

Level 2 and Level 3 Hair and Media Make Up students from City College Norwich transformed their models into witch, wizard and mythical creature characters at a catwalk showcase on Friday 15th May. Guests were treated to a stunning display of the students’ theatrical and special effects hair and make up talents in the hour long show which took place at college’s Debut Restaurant.

Students’ body painting to reach a wider audience after competition success

Three talented student make-up artists from City College Norwich have been rewarded with an exciting opportunity to show their skills at two prestigious body painting events following their success in a spectacular competition at the college on Friday.

Held as part of the Level 3 Hair and Media Make-up students’ final assessment for the body painting part of their course, the event was given an added edge by being run as a competition between the 17 students on the course.

Cutting edge styles at Diffusion hair show

A creative mix of stunning, contemporary hair creations, taking their inspiration from Lady Gaga, burlesque, candy and masquerade themes, went on show this week at the Diffusion hair show at City College Norwich. 

The catwalk show, which was held in The StartUp Lounge, showcased the work of 23 students on hairdressing NVQ and VRQ courses at the College. 

Diffusion enabled students to show their individually created styles and to experience what it is like to work in an artistic team for a catwalk show, with the results forming part of the assessment for their course.
